English novel - Aghast : Ch-22 Who is next?

Ronald and Christopher sat in foyer, drinking, with lot of worry on their faces. One after the other, their two friends were killed brutally. Firstly when Steven was killed, they were not very sure whether the murder has to do anything with Nancy's murder. But after Paul's murder their doubt was confirmed. Even though they have decided not to take it seriously, but they couldn't, as they knew that the next is one of them. Therefore their faces were faded with lot of worry and fear, which they were trying to overcome with drinks.
" Didn't I tell you at the time? " Christopher said.
Ronald just looked at him quizzically.
"...Don’t leave that asshole alive.... We should have killed him too with the girl'' Christopher said, taking a swig of whisky, making bad face.
They were not only doubtful but were sure about John's involvement in the murders.
" He never seemed to be so dangerous." Ronald said.
" Revenge! ... Revenge makes man dangerous." Christopher said philosophically.
" But still I am not getting ... How he must be executing the murders... not only that, how Paul’s flesh got into my kitchen sink?... And my house was also properly closed at that time... all doors .... all windows were properly closed and latched " Ronald said in surprise.
Ronald looked into the void and said, " Seeing all this ... only one thing seems to be possible"
" Which one?'' Christopher asked filling his empty whisky glass.
" Do you believe in ghosts?" Ronald asked in dilemma, not sure about to ask or not to.
" Don't talk nonsense ... there must be a way that he’s doing the killings" Christopher said.
" I also think so... but at times I get confused" Ronald said.
" Don't worry... We will get him, before he gets us. " Christopher tried to console him.
" Shall we ask for Police protection.?'' Ronald asked.
" Police protection? ... Are you nuts? ...What we are going to tell them?
That we killed a girl, sorry, it won’t happen again, please protect us?" Christopher said ridiculously.
" All that stuff comes afterwards... Now the issue is to protect ourselves... you know" Ronald said.
" But going to police and ask for protection..." Christopher seemed to be reluctant.
"Just leave it to me. " Ronald said confidently, cutting him off in between.
